Tips for Your Stay
There should be a welcome bag awaiting you in the home when you check in with a few starter items such as a trash bag, a sponge, two rolls of toilet paper and a roll of paper towels.
Items to Bring
- Beach Towels
- Beach Equipment i.e. chairs, umbrellas, toys, etc. (Happy Daze supplies 6 wooden sand chairs.)
- Hair Dryers should now be in black bags in all 3 full bathrooms!
- Shampoo, conditioner, body soap and toiletries
- Laundry and dishwasher detergent
- All paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, napkins, coffee filters (8” flat bottom basket style and/or k-cups)
All of the above items can be found in local stores if you do not want to pack them for you trip. There are two grocery stores in Corolla (Harris Teeter & Food Lion) and both usually stay well stocked.
Please note Happy Daze does not stock spices, cooking oils, condiments, or any food items as all food items are cleaned out weekly by departing guests.
Linens/Towels/Beddings
Sheets, blankets, and bath towel sets (bath, hand, face towel each) for 12 guests are provided.
Quilts and shams will be on beds and washable blankets are located in each bedroom for use. Please do not put our patterned quilts and decorative pillow shams in the washer as it will ruin them and damage the washer. If something needs cleaning let us know and we will have the cleaners take care of it. The solid colored washable blankets in the bedroom closets are laundered throughout the season and available for your use. Feel free to wash these in the washer if you’d like.
Top bunks will not be made up, but wrapped linens will be placed on them for your use. If you’re not using those beds, kindly leave the linens wrapped for the cleaners.
Refrigerators
The kitchen has a new French door fridge, please take good care of it! On turnover days, refrigerators can take up to 24 hours to fully cool. Upon arrival to our home, if the refrigerator seems warmer than its normal operating temperature, please bear in mind some of the following.
- Do not turn the refrigerator down too low; make sure the temperature setting is set about one number above half way for the refrigerator and freezer to work properly.
- Do not stuff it full of warm food and beverages for the first 12-18 hours, put in only those items that must be refrigerated immediately and allow them to cool. Gradually add canned drinks and other items that do not require immediate refrigeration.
- Keep the door shut, constantly opening and closing the door will not allow food and drinks to cool.
- Housekeeping would have had the fridge open for an extended period of time to clean and sanitize prior to your arrival. During this time, the fridge would have remained open and took on warmer outside air. The fridge may take some time to regulate its internal temperature back to normal.
- Adding pre-chilled items, such as cold soda cans, to the fridge can assist in the cooling process.
- For any food items that MUST directly go into the fridge, be sure that they are not blocking any of the cooling vents so that airflow can properly circulate.
- If the refrigerator is still warm after 24hrs, let us know.
Freezer/Ice Maker
Please do not lean on the freezer door as it will bend the door and cause it not to seal when it closes which will prevent your food from staying frozen!
Do not remove the ice maker tray and do not put anything in the ice maker tray. It will not make items colder, but it will break the ice maker and require a service call.
Coffee Makers
Happy Daze has a traditional coffee maker which uses the 8″ basket style filters and a new Keurig K-Supreme Single Serve K-Cup Pod 66oz coffee maker.
Dishwasher
We have a fancy new dishwasher, but it can be a little picky! Only fill the soap dispenser 1/2 full or the cover will not release and your dishes will not be cleaned. If you set the dishwasher on a delay, then later open the door, you must press “Start” again for it to run.
Please do not put shells or sandy toys in the dishwasher. (Seriously, guests did this!) This will cause the heating element to fail and need to be replaced. Sadly our last dishwasher only lasted 4 summers.
Be sure to check the “hidden” third rack at the very top for silverware.

Washer/Dryer
Located behind the curtain in the 3rd floor hall bath. Please, please be sure to clean out the dryer lint trap before and after you use the dryer, every time, to avoid a fire hazard! Do not wash patterned quilts or decorative pillow shams. If something needs cleaning let us know and we will have the cleaners take care of it.
Cleaning Supplies
Happy Daze starts the season with some basic cleaning supplies. They should last the season, but we can’t promise they will still be there for your stay. Please leave them on the shelf in the laundry room to keep out of reach of children.
Air Conditioning
A/C Units are designed for a 15-degree differential from outside temperature. If the air conditioner is not on when you check-in, don’t expect immediate results. Set the thermostat at 72 degrees (maximum efficiency); please be sure all windows and doors are closed. As the property cools off you may adjust the thermostat to your comfort level. Please keep in mind that lowering the thermostat under 68 degrees will cause the air condition unit to shock the system. This causes the coils to freeze, resulting in prolonged loss of cooling that will require 24 hours to reset.
Moving Furniture
We ask that you please do not move our furniture, but if something is moved please put it back in the proper place, including deck and pool furniture.
TV/Electronics
Happy Daze is outfitted with all smart TVs. We offer streaming services via Hulu Live to watch local and national channels. Please do not rent movies, change, alter in any way, or add to any subscriptions. You will be charged if there are changes/charges on the Happy Daze account.
Do not log out of the Hulu Live account– if logged out it will require intervention on our part in order to log back in. You will need to request a pin from us via email and it takes time.
Be sure to log out of any apps you may have log into before you check-out– we are not responsible for any changes or charges to your account if you leave it logged in.
Instructions for electronics are provided in the green Guide Book on the third level.
The 3rd level great room and 2nd level den both have extra HDMI availability for guests to use. On the 3rd level it is above the Blu-Ray player behind the barn door.
Private Pool
Our private pool receives a full clean on check-in day and a mid-week check. Guests will be charged for any additional cleaning required due to abuse. Pool temperatures vary and degree of warmth cannot be guaranteed, as the pool is not heated.
Sand frequently blows into most pools, particularly those nearest the ocean. Those in your party that do not rinse off before entering the pool may also contribute to some of the sand accumulation. The good news is that sand DOES NOT affect the function, chemical safety, or cleanliness of the pool. Sand that enters the pool will settle to the bottom and should not interfere with the filters or pumps. Excessive sand build-up can be vacuumed out by a licensed pool vendor, but may incur an extra charge if needed outside of normal servicing.
Hot Tub
The hot tub should be ready for use by 4:00 pm on your check-in day. The hot tub receives a full clean on check-in day and a mid-week chemical check. Children under the age of 12 should not be allowed in the hot tub for safety purposes.
Please keep the hot tub Covered when not in use to help it retain heat and stay clean. In the event of high winds please use the straps attached to the deck to secure the cover.
Do not sit or stand on the cover, it will break. Do not remove the cover from the easy lift metal arm as it will damage the cover. Simply fold it back in half over the metal arm, and then push it up from the middle. The arm is there to help you lift the cover and to hold it while not on the hot tub.

Outdoor Items
Ping Pong Table and Outdoor Toys – We ask that you do not put drinks (or play drinking games!) on the Ping Pong Table to help it survive many seasons and be there for your enjoyment next trip! Please neatly store all of the outdoor toys under the house including giant Jenga, chess/checkers pieces, Connect 4, and the Ping Pong table/paddles/balls after use.
Beach Chairs – We have supplied 6 custom made canvas and wooden beach chairs for your use. When you are finished using them, please clean any sand off by rinsing the chairs and hang them back in the outdoor hallway under the house.
Corn Hole Boards – Located just past the beach chairs in the hallway under the house. Please do not take our corn hole boards to the beach as it damages them and causes unnecessary wear and tear. They are for use in the yard and driveway. When you finish enjoying them, please return to their location hanging under the house for the next guests.

Beach Items – Periodically guests will leave beach items in the outside basket. We do not guarantee any of these and are not responsible for condition of these items. We provide 6 canvas beach chairs with our logo hanging in the outdoor hallway.
If you are looking for more beach items there is a rental and setup service in our neighborhood: Corolla Beach Rentals. We highly recommend CBR, even if you just rent an umbrella to save your space on the beach. Other local options for beach and cottage rental items: Ocean Atlantic Rentals and Just for the Beach
Grill – Happy Daze provides a park style charcoal grill near the pool area. If you rent or bring a grill please keep in mind No grills are allowed on decks due to fire hazards. Guests are responsible for cleaning the grill after each use and before the end of their stay.
Outside Shower – Walk through the breezeway to find the outdoor shower on the back of the west side of the house. Please use the outside shower to rinse out swimsuits when returning from the beach to prevent sand collecting in the house and the drains.

Damages to Happy Daze
Guests must notify us immediately of any damages/accidents that occur during your stay. Any repairs or replacements that exceed the security deposit will be the responsibility of the leaseholder. Please help us to make sure the last guests arrive to the same beautiful house as the first guests by taking care of Happy Daze during your stay.
We understand mishaps happen, but if there is a problem, we need to know right away so we can sort it out before the next guests arrive. If anything was accidentally broken, damaged, or soiled please notify us immediately so we can arrange repairs: Owners@HappyDazeOBX.com | 252.629.1177
Spray Sunscreen
Please do not spray sunscreen inside Happy Daze, on the decks of Happy Daze or under the house! This type of sunscreen damages and stains fabrics, carpets, and even the wooden decks and concrete. The now permanent foot marks seen below were left when a guest sprayed sunscreen on our deck. After extensively scrubbing and cleaning the deck sadly they remained for a few years, especially when the decks are wet. While we want you create lasting memories during your stay at Happy Daze, we’d rather you not leave lasting feet behind! Therefore, we kindly ask you to limit use of spray or aerosol sunscreens to the driveway or grassy areas. Thank you!

No Smoking
Please respect our wishes and do not smoke in our home, on the decks, or in the pool area! If you must, please smoke in the driveway and discard your cigarette in the appropriate place. Do not throw your cigarette butts on the ground as this may result in a fire and/or fine from the homeowners association.
No Pets
While we love animals, and particularly dogs, for the comfort of our other guests, and the health of our home, we do not allow pets or animals of any kind in Happy Daze. Bringing a pet or other animal is a direct violation of our vacation rental agreement and unfortunately grounds for immediate eviction. Please don’t ask to bring one, and please don’t make it awkward for all of us!
Trash and Recycling
You don’t have to do anything other than take it downstairs to the rolling cans located to the left as you exit the outdoor deck stairs. The trash cans are opposite the beach toy basket. On the appropriate days personnel from Corolla Light Resort will roll our cans out and back after it’s been picked up! This is one of the many things we love about CLR!
Electric
If something electrical does not work, make sure the item is plugged in, the wall switch is on, and the circuit breaker has not been tripped. If tripped, flip the breaker and turn off and on again. The electric panel is located behind the bedroom door in the bunk room on the 2nd floor. If the issue seems to be isolated to a single outlet, the outlet itself may need to be rest or there could be a tripped breaker.
If several indoor or outdoor outlets or light switches are not working please check to see if the GFIC outlet is tripped in 2nd level master bedroom bathroom. It’s to the right of the first sink. The bottom Reset button must be flush/flat for the outlets and lights to work. If the Reset button is popped out the outlets won’t work until the Reset button is reset or pushed in.
This type of outlet can prevent electrical shock. Overloading the circuit, or moisture, may have caused the outlet to default to a safety mode where power is shut off. If this is the case, you may press the “RESET” button to restore power. If this does not work, we may suggest checking the panel box for a tripped breaker.

Also, please note charging of Electric Vehicles is strictly prohibited at the home per the Vacation Rental Agreement Tenants agreement.
Plumbing
The majority of plumbing service calls is complaints of stopped up toilets. Please be careful what you put down the toilet and make sure you use the plunger that has been provided to release the drain. (The plunger should be in the 2nd floor hall closet next to the bunk room.) If the plunger does not work please let us know. DO NOT flush female sanitary products, Kleenex, baby wipes, diapers, and cleaning wipes down the toilet. If a plumber is called to service the clog and there are products found other than toilet paper, you may be responsible for the plumbing service charge.

Frequently Asked Questions
Click on a question to reveal the answer! A few might be redundant, in case you skipped over the Tips for Your Stay and came straight to the FAQ. 😉
What should we bring?
Items to Bring:
- Beach Towels
- Extra blankets if you are cold natured
- Beach Equipment (i.e. chairs, (we supply 6) umbrellas, toys, etc.)
- Shampoo, Conditioner, body soap and Toiletries
- Coffee pot 8" basket style filters and k-cups
- Laundry and dishwasher detergent
How many guests can we bring to Happy Daze?
Our home can only host a max of 12 no matter age, sleeping arrangements, etc. for multiple reasons.
- We only have beds/bedding/towels for 12.
- We start each season with enough kitchen items for 12 people (plates, glasses, silverware)
- Our lease states a maximum of 12 guests are allowed. Exceeding this is grounds for eviction.
- And lastly but not least, please keep in mind septic issues can occur when guests overfill a home…eww gross!
Can I bring my dog or other pet?
While we love animals, and particularly dogs, for the comfort of our other guests and the health of our home we do not allow pets or animals of any kind in Happy Daze including Emotional Support/Therapy animals.
Bringing a pet or other animal is a violation of our vacation rental agreement and unfortunately grounds for immediate eviction.
Bottom line: do not bring animals, as it will get awkward for all of us! Please give your furry friend a stay-cation at home. Many of our neighbors are there year round and keep an eye on our home. They are also quick to let us know if they see something out of place at our home, such as pets.
Is smoking allowed in the home?
Smoking is strictly prohibited in all areas of our home including decks, under the house, and the pool area.
Where is everything?
Here is a list of commonly looked for items. Please note previous guests may have moved them, but this is where they stay.

- Dust Buster is in the laundry area to the left of the dryer

Where is all of the silverware?
Missing a lot of silverware and kitchen utensils? Well our new dishwasher is super fancy and has a "hidden" 3rd rack! Look at the very top and you should see a rather flat rack where items might be hiding.

Seriously though, I picked out this dishwasher, knew it had a 3rd rack, and spend an entire weekend wondering where most of our silverware had disappeared to...until our son pointed it out and reminded me!
May we move furniture/furnishings?
We ask that you please do not move our furniture, including deck and pool furniture, but if something is relocated please put it back in it's original location. If furniture needs to be moved on turnover day it takes extra time for our cleaning crew and pool person to put it all back where it belongs. This delays them in preparing Happy Daze for the next guests and in getting to their next house to prep for other homeowners.
Please also keep in mind this is our home and we have intentionally placed our furnishings for all to enjoy! Thank you for understanding!
May we charge an Electric Vehicle?
Charging of electric vehicles is strictly prohibited at the home. Per the Vacation Rental Agreement "Tenant agrees to NOT charge any electric vehicles (EVs) using household outlets of any kind. Tenant also agrees to not allow any guests to do so." There is a charging station at Harris Teeter and other local charging stations can be found via an online search.
What are those annoying bugs?
Our home is routinely and professionally checked and treated for insects. There are bugs at the beach! And these bugs can enter the house when doors and windows are left open, especially when the lights are on inviting them in!
The annoying flying bugs you may see are harmless. They are midges... and yes, they are annoying. The good news is they are generally pretty harmless and they're an important part of the NC coastal ecosystem. The bad news is that they we can see pretty big swarms at times and they really love flying in the house as they are attracted to lights.
Here are a few tips to manage them when populations are high in the area:
- Keep all windows and doors closed at all times.
- Do not turn on bright lights at dusk or dawn.
- Close the blinds or curtains when you turn the lights on in a room. Lights will attract a swarm of midges.
- Midges are most active during the early morning and late at night.
- When entering or exiting the home, do so quickly as to not let a swarm in.
- If you do have midges enter our home, please do not try to kill them. They stain the ceiling and guests aggressively killing them have caused it to need to be repainted in the past.
- Remember: They have a very short lifecycle and they do not bite nor sting and are harmless!
For more information, check out this link. And please remember that staying near the ocean and the sound means that you end up living near a lot of bugs. Wetland areas are the breeding ground for many insects. Therefore, there is only so much that can be done to limit the amount of midges in the area. But whenever the midges become too annoying, also remember that without them the natural ecosystem of the Outer Banks would look completely different, and it wouldn’t be the same place that we all know and love!

When is trash day? What to do with the trash and recycling?
You don’t have to do anything other than take it out to the large cans! The rolling trash cans are located to the left as you exit the outdoor deck stairs opposite the beach toy basket. On the appropriate days personnel from Corolla Light Resort will roll our cans out to the street, then back after it’s been picked up. This is one of the many things we love about CLR!
What needs to be done to check out?
Do you have a Lost and Found?
If you believe you have left something at Happy Daze, contact us at owners@HappyDazeOBX.com. During the rental season our home stays fully booked, meaning we can't stop in to check for lost items, but we will do our best to notify the the cleaning crew and the current guests in Happy Daze to keep an eye out.
How do we rebook?
Ready to rebook for next year? Let us know to save your week! Owners@HappyDazeOBX.com | 252.629.1177
Your week, if available for rent, will be held for you to rebook for next year for up to 7 days after your departure. If you wish to rebook your same week, please let us know ASAP. If not, also let us know so we can offer it to our growing waitlist!
Where can we leave a review?
Love Happy Daze? Positive reviews from awesome guests like you help others to feel more confident about choosing Happy Daze! Please take a minute to click the links and share any positive feedback!
